I first interviewed Randal Wyatt for a Skanner story on the local hip-hop community’s tensions with the police. To this day, it’s one of the pieces I’m most proud of writing as a young reporter. Anyways, back then I knew Randal as someone heavily involved in the community and the lead of one of the best Portland bands for my money, Speaker Minds. Recently, he began a venture called Taking Ownership PDX, where his organization helps provide free home repairs to Black homeowners as a form of reparations. The program has been such a success that Wyatt can now operate it as his full time job. I caught up with Wyatt for the Blacktastic Adventure. Check it out below and subscribe to the YouTube channel.
