On Dec. 7, I had the honor of moderating the Respond to Racism 2020 Student Panel. Student equity leaders from Lakeridge and Lake Oswego High Schools touched on a number of subjects, including the need to get rid of SROs (cops in schools), implement diverse curriculum and hold LOSD administration accountable for their failings in dealing with widespread racism in the district.
LOSD is currently being sued by a Lakeridge student for failure to respond to ongoing racist incidents and a junior at Lake Oswego High recently came forward to say the district hasn’t responded to the ongoing racism she has faced, which include incidents that made local news headlines when she was in junior high.
